Cast anodes will have microscopic dross and air bubbles inclusions which may cause localized electrical activities resulting in the anode snapping off prematurely resulting in costly downtime in retrieving and replacing the anodes.
Circular cross-section anode are generally used in automatic chrome plating plants.Round anodes have advantage of having electrically active surface area around its entire circumference and have more life compared to other anodes.
This type of Lead Tin Anode are basically used in Conventional Hard Chrome Plating Plants concerning majorly with plating of Long Cylinders,Tie-Bars,long mandrel bars etc.
Corrugated type anode are most widely used anodes in small Chrome plating tanks .Its weighs less than conventional rectangular cross-section anodes.Its has more electrically active surface area due to its corrugated cross-section.
Elliptical cross section anode have more more electrically active surface area compared conventional circular cross-section anode.They are also mostly used automatic chrome plating plants.
Rectangular cross-section anode have large electrically active surface area generally facing towards job.But compared to round anode they have less life cycle due to reduced thickness of anode.
Lead tin alloy rods are flexible and used in plating of small intricate parts of large jobs.Applications – Gun barrels , Twin screws with deep Spiral grooves ( For achieving Plating thickness and uniformity in those deep spiral grooves) etc.
Some of anodes which have large diameter or long length which are not cost effective when manufactured conventionally.Lead tin alloy is bonded on core metal such as Mild steel or copper.Bonded anodes weighs less and cost effective than conventional anodes.
Conforming anode are nowadays used in plating of piston rods ,sleeves etc.Plating time is considerably reduced when compared with conventional anodes,hence production is increased.Uniform Chrome plating can be observed using conforming anodes. Conforming anodes are best for thicker deposits and especially for heavy build-up work as they offer optimum deposit speed and uniformity.
